Peer reviewers play a central role in maintaining the scientific quality and integrity of ESSD. We are committed to building a diverse, international pool of qualified reviewers across all thematic areas covered by the journal.

Who can apply?

ESSD welcomes applications from researchers who meet the following criteria:

• Hold a PhD or equivalent doctoral qualification in a field relevant to the journal's scope
• Have an active publication record in peer-reviewed journals
• Have expertise in one or more of the journal's thematic areas
• Are committed to providing objective, constructive, and timely reviews

• Climate Change & Environmental Sustainability
• Sustainable Built Environment & Cultural Heritage
• Urban & Regional Planning and Governance
• Resources, Energy & Circular Economy
• Smart Systems, Technology & Environmental Innovation

What is expected of reviewers?

Reviewers are expected to:

• Complete reviews within the agreed timeframe — typically 3 weeks from acceptance of the invitation
• Provide objective, evidence-based assessments
• Declare any conflicts of interest before accepting a review assignment
• Maintain strict confidentiality of the manuscript and review process

• Full name and current institutional affiliation
• Academic qualifications
• Scopus profile link
• A brief statement of your areas of expertise (maximum 200 words)

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Successful applicants will be added to the reviewer database and contacted when a manuscript matching their expertise is submitted.
