ESSD is a peer-reviewed, scholarly journal that aims to systematically develop the minds of aspiring scholars that seek to contribute to the academic community. We are currently living in an age of information where sources are widely available on the Internet, however, we at ESSD seek to efficiently utilize the available information to help create an age of knowledge. The journal's focus is academic research in all fields of Environmental Sciences and Sustainable Development. In this journal, we welcome diverse approaches to innovative ideas that could potentially be a breakthrough in a particular field of study.
The International Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development (ESSD)
employs a double-blind peer review process which dictates that authors do not know who
their reviewers are, and the reviewers do not know who the authors are. To further understand
ESSD’s peer-review and publication process, please refer to the flowchart below.
The author should make sure to submit their manuscript with a cover/title page that
includes the title, name(s), affiliation(s), contact information and addresses, and
conflict of interest statement. This page will NOT be sent to the reviewers. The
authors should also be sure to exclude any personal information from the manuscript
Authors should make sure to avoid referencing themselves in the first person. Use in
text citations like those of any other sources. Authors should also avoid referencing
figures and/or tables as “Author’s own”, please do so by referencing your work using
the third person.
As soon as the author submits his/her manuscript, the journal’s Managing Editor undergoes
an initial check comprised of:
If the manuscript passes the previous phases, the Managing Editor then sends it to the Editor
in Chief for approval. Once the Editor in Chief accepts the submission, it is sent to the editor.
In this phase, the editor assigns the anonymized paper to 3 reviewers. Only 2 of the reviewers
are needed to either accept the submission or accept the submission after further revisions. If
further revisions are needed, the editor will communicate the reviewers’comments to the
author and require the author to send a final edited version of the paper and a version with the
edits highlighted in yellow. The edited documents are sent to the reviewers once again for
final approval. Once the reviewer ensures that the paper is now accepted, the editor
recommends that the paper be accepted and sends the final paper to the managing editor.
If the managing editor finds that the paper is still not prepared for publication, the manuscript
is sent back to the editor. If the managing editor accepts the paper, it is forwarded to the
Editor in Chief.
Once the Editor in Chief accepts the submissions, it is sent to the production team to be
language edited, formatted, and structured.
Yearly volume contains 1 issue, each issue containing 7 - 10 articles.
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration.
